Sydney, Australia

The Australian hotel was originally in George Street, next to where the Museum of Contemporary Art now stands. The Sydney Gazette announced that the Australian was opened on August 12, 1824, which is the oldest pub continuously licensed in the city of Sydney. When the plague hit Sydney in 1900, many buildings were demolished to prevent further outbreaks, including the Australian hotel.

The license was transferred to a new building located near the archaeological site at 116 Cumberland Street. In 1913 the present building was built and is maintained until today, one of the most intact pubs in Sydney, which retains its original features and unique bars on two levels. Today Australia has the same look he had when the soldiers drank here after the First World War in 1918, during the Great Depression of the 1930s or when customers witnessed the gangland-style murder of John William Manners outside the hotel in 1956.

The building remains an attractive and well preserved example of Edwardian architecture with the quality and taste present throughout the hotel, from the tile floor through the taps from the tap. The Australian Heritage Hotel still has many pre-existing features, such as metal awnings, doors and posters in the lounge bar style.

The hotel is on the list of World Heritage in the State of registration and preservation of heritage and Registration Authority Sydney Harbour Foreshore, but also appears in these non-statutory heritage registers:

Registration for the National
Register of National Trust of Australia (NSW)
Royal Australian Institute of Architects Register of 20 century buildings of significance.
